Senior living is often one of the most confusing and misunderstood topics for older adults and their families. To help bring clarity, leaders of Heritage Pointe senior living communities are taking their knowledge into the community, offering educational presentations that dispel myths and provide straightforward information about retirement living. Heritage Pointe Communities is owned and operated by The United Methodist Memorial Home (UMMH).
“Our objective is helping to make sense of the puzzle that is retirement living,” said Tracy Irwin, vice president of sales and marketing for Heritage Pointe Communities. “We look at the puzzle pieces and explain what they mean. Topics include campuses, life plan options, benefits, costs and the truth behind common myths.”
Recently, Chod Boxell, chief executive officer of Heritage Pointe Communities, spoke at St. Joseph United Methodist Church to the Keystone Group – Seniors for the Fort. The invitation came from church members who also serve on the board of directors for UMMH. Around the same time, Irwin addressed the International Harvester/Navistar Retiree Group, a long-standing organization of factory retirees who meet monthly in Fort Wayne.
Both leaders guided audiences through an overview of the senior living industry, explaining levels of care, lifestyle options, payment structures and what makes retirement communities unique. They also introduced Heritage Pointe’s history and described the three campuses that serve older adults throughout northeast Indiana: Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne, Heritage Pointe of Warren and Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Heritage Pointe also owns and operates The Elizabeth Scott Community in Maumee, Ohio.
In their presentations, Irwin and Boxell also addressed many of the myths that cause hesitation misunderstanding or confusion.
“Conversations like these are about empowerment,” said Boxell. “When people understand what senior living truly is, they realize it is not about giving something up but about gaining security, freedom and opportunities.”
