City offices will temporarily move into a new space at 217 W. State Street starting next week. This past Wednesday and Thursday, April 29 and 30 were scheduled to be the big move days, with offices prepping for full operations at the new location early in the week of May 4. The City is working hard on a smooth transition, but thanks everyone for bearing with them during the moving process.
Relocating city offices will allow much-needed renovations to ramp up at the City Building, which last saw major work in the late 1980s. Heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical systems that are inefficient and expensive to maintain will be updated. At the same time, the former Police and Fire areas at 300 Cherry Street will be reconfigured to better serve residents – all while maintaining the City Building’s historic character.
Also important to know are changes to public meeting locations. Most will be held in a conference area at 217 W. State Street. Meetings held there will remain accessible and open to all members of the public; however, livestreaming will not be available until renovations are complete and the City Building reopens.
City Council meetings will move to Huntington North High School, where they will continue to livestream them under Indiana Code 5-14-1.5-2.9.
