Heritage Days 2026 will be a festive celebration of our country’s 250th birthday. With red, white and blue as the choice colors, June 11 through 14, “America’s 250th Celebration,” promises to be a bright and patriotic time!

The administrations of the City and County of Huntington hope every home will decorate to celebrate 250 years of the United States Declaration of Independence. Festive buntings are available at the Huntington County History & Education Center, 315 Court Street, for a $10 donation.

The story behind the classic American bunting began during the Revolutionary War. It rose to popularity and was named after buntine, a lightweight wool fabric used for maritime flags by the British Royal Navy as early as the 1600s. Its prominence grew during the Civil War and, with founding of General Benjamin Butler’s U.S. Bunting Company in 1865, found a solid foothold in national tradition.

The bunting is an enduring and widespread symbol of unity, and brings an instant punch of patriotic style to any space. Buntings are exempt from strict Flag Code rules and can be displayed however the user chooses. So celebrate 250 years with a bunting hung somewhere from your home: the porch railings, eves or a special place of your choosing.
