The state organization of Tri Kappa awards a variety of scholarships to Indiana college students each spring. Since 1914, Tri Kappa has provided scholarships, and currently an average of $500,000 is awarded statewide each year. Each chapter may sponsor one applicant for each type of scholarship. Available to full-time undergraduate students (sophomores, juniors and seniors) or graduate students. Criteria used by the Tri Kappa selection committee are academic achievement, strong goals, extracurricular activities, work experience and volunteer service. One academic scholarship, one key scholarship, one vocational scholarship and one carnation scholarship also are available to students throughout the state.

An academic scholarship shall be awarded to students from each of twelve Tri Kappa provinces in Indiana. While this does cover the entire State of Indiana, if you have questions, please reach out the scholarship chair. The key scholarship is directed to those students who have no previous four-year degree and have had an interruption in education for at least one year prior to enrollment. Any student enrolled in an accredited school offering an associate, baccalaureate or graduate degree and plans to enroll for a minimum of three credit hours for next semester may apply.

The vocational scholarship targets a student who will be enrolled next fall in an accredited vocational program leading to a degree, certification, or licensing. Students who will graduate from high school before the fall semester are eligible to apply for the vocational option. The carnation scholarship is aimed towards those adults who have a degree from an accredited college (associate, baccalaureate or graduate) prior to making application. Must have a one-year gap in education, plan to enroll in a minimum of three credit hours the next semester in order to pursue additional education to meet continuing certification requirements for a current career, or seeking a degree for a new career.

Criteria used by the Tri Kappa selection committee for all scholarships are strong goals, work experience and volunteer service since high school. Fine arts scholarships will be awarded statewide to students majoring in art, dance, drama, or music performance, visual-graphic or computer-generated art, or educator. Students must be enrolled in an accredited degree program. The Twanette Nutter Fleming Music Award is a scholarship that stipulates the applicant must be enrolled in a fully-accredited course of study leading to a degree to teach music in the public schools.

Scholarship chair Samantha Garcia stated, “Our area boasts numerous college students who are talented and would qualify for these scholarships. We are hopeful that those students will be brought to our attention so we may begin the process of submitting an application for state Tri Kappa scholarships.”

Students wishing to apply for any of these scholarships are encouraged to contact Garcia by emailing the chapter for an application huntingtonchi@trikappa.org.

The deadline to submit your application is January 15, 2026. The State Tri Kappa State Scholarship Committee will meet in early spring to select the recipients. In addition to the state scholarships, the Huntington active and associate chapters of Tri Kappa also provide local scholarships. Those details will be available in the January.
