Huntington celebrates Constitution Day

The City of Huntington welcomed three distinguished guests to help celebrate Constitution Day on Wednesday, September 17. Thomas Jefferson and John and Abigail Adams visited our fair city to perform for all fifth-grade students from the Huntington County Community Schools and Huntington Catholic School on Tuesday, September 16. Their second performance was for the entire community on Wednesday, September 17 (Constitution Day), in Zurcher Auditorium on the campus of Huntington University. The event was free to attend.

Brooks Fetters welcomed more than 120 individuals to the event. Jeff Webb, professor of history at Huntington University, was the moderator for the evening.

Fetters honored John Stoffel, long-time fifth-grade teacher at Flint Springs Elementary School, with the Champion of the Constitution plaque. Stoffel was honored for the many years he has been teaching the students about U.S. History in his school.

The Erie Band performed for the audience prior to the event. The American Heritage Girls handed out copies of the Constitution and presented the colors. Boy Scout Troop #130 distributed event information.

The Constitution Day presentation was sponsored by the City of Huntington, Huntington University, Huntington County Community Schools, Huntington County Chamber of Commerce and the Purviance House Bed & Breakfast.
