VEX Robotics is a program that encourages students to work together to build and program a robot to solve a problem, cleverly disguised as a competitive game. Our students have been working hard all year to build robots that will collect balls from the playing field, push or fling them into a goal, and then end the match by hanging from a bar.

Students developed competitive bot-driving skills and also programmed their robots to complete tasks autonomously. Two teams of fifth graders from Horace Mann Elementary School have been invited to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championships, May 10 to 12, in Dallas, Texas.

According to Jeanne Paff, Horace Mann educator, “It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these students, and we’re writing to ask for your help to get them there. They are working hard before and after school to modify their robots and update their programming. They are ready to show the world what Huntington County kids can do!”

The Horace Mann Robotics Team invites the community to to make a donation to their team. They ask that the community invests in young people who are learning to work with their heads and their hands. They encourage you to invest in young people who have developed the grit and determination to plan, try, fail and try again – many times over. Offer these students the support and encouragement they deserve.

Checks can be made out to Horace Mann Elementary and mailed to 2485 Waterworks Road, Huntington, IN 46750. The robotics team will proudly display a company’s logo in Dallas if a contribution is emailed to jpaff@hccsc.k12.in.us. Come see Horace Mann students in action at the county-wide scrimmage at Huntington North High School on April 16. Follow their adventures at https://www.facebook.com/huskybots/.
