As a significant winter chill sweeps in, Duke Energy is committed to helping customers manage energy costs during the coldest months of the year. Historically, January is the peak for energy use as heating systems work harder to keep homes comfortable. The colder it gets, the more energy is required – making now the perfect time to take action.

Our perspective: “While the weather can be unpredictable, there are programs that can help customers manage their energy use,” said Duke Energy Indiana president Stan Pinegar. “Programs like Power Manager and Smart Usage Option, along with following simple energy-saving tips, make it easier to find ways to save.”
Why it matters: In Indiana, December 2025 was colder than both the prior month (November) and the previous December 2024. As temperatures fall, heating systems have to work longer to keep homes comfortable.
