Heritage Days will once again include two vehicle shows as a part of the celebration for 2022. A downtown Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show, sponsored by MetroNet, will be held Friday evening, June 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. The Huntington County Disaster Team Car and Truck Show will be held Saturday, June 18 at Huntington North High School from 3 to 8 p.m. Huntington University is the official sponsor of Heritage Days 2022, celebrating 125 years in the community.

Friday evening in downtown Huntington promises to celebrate Huntington’s heritage with a festival atmosphere including food available for purchase at local restaurants and from food trucks. The Friday evening vehicle show is being organized by Chris and Erin Covey and overseen that evening by Busted Knuckles Auto Club. The show is open to all cars, trucks, tractors and motorcycles with registration taking place at the intersection of Jefferson and Washington Streets from 3 to 6:30 p.m. The vehicle entry fee is $10.

Cars will enter downtown at Jefferson and Park Drive. Bikes will park on Market Street between Cherry and Jefferson Streets. Dash plaques and goody bags will be given to the first 75 vehicles registered. Awards will take place at 8:30 p.m. to the top 25; best of show; best car, truck, motorcycle; best paint; best engine and best interior. The event is a fundraiser for the Downtown Business Association. For information contact Chris or Erin Covey at (260) 418-8262. The Huntington County Disaster Team Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show is being organized by Max Kaylor and his team of the Heritage Days steering committee. It will take place at Huntington North High School, 450 MacGahan Street, from 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 18. Registration will be from 3 to 6 p.m. with a $10 fee.

The Disaster Team receives no federal, state or government funding. All funding is private or raised by members of the Disaster Team through car shows and other events.

Awards will be presented in the pre-1920 and 1971-to present categories. Also, one award will be given by the Huntington County Disaster Team; two, participant choice and 15 additional. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 vehicles registered. Participants must be present to win awards which will be announced at 7 p.m. DJ Dick Smart of Smart Productions will provide music during the show. Kaylor and the Huntington County Disaster Team will man the car show at Huntington North, while the Heritage Days Kids Zone takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. also at the high school. Food vendors will be on hand and Schwan’s ice cream will be available for purchase. The Kids Zone, manned by the Christian Life Tabernacle, will include many free fun activities including bounce houses, pony rides and petting zoo (sponsored by McDonald’s of Huntington), Archery Tag, games by the Huntington City-Township Public Library and more. The Huntington County Modelers’ Club will also be on hand presenting flying model airplanes and helicopters.

Beacon Credit Union will once again sponsor Pulling for Riley Kiddy Tractor Pull at 5:30 p.m. also in the Kids Zone at the high school. Registration begins at 5 p.m. with four weight classes: 0-44 Feather Weight, 45-59 Light Weight, 60-74 Medium Weight and 75-100 Heavy Weight part of the Kiddy Tractor Pull. Registration is only the day of the event and awards will be given for the top three in each class.

The Hot Air Balloon festival will also be taking place around 6:30 p.m. followed by a balloon glow at dark at the high school. Emergency vehicles and food vendors will be present. DJ Dick Smart of Smart Productions will play music also for this event.

Many other events will also be a part of Heritage Days including Little Miss Heritage Days pageant, the Chief’s Breakfast, Rotary Strawberry Feed, Ducky Run, Modelers’ Club event, parade, JeFFFest on Sunday evening on Franklin Street, carnival rides and more.
