The Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) – Family Medicine team in Huntington has expanded with the addition of Kathleen Leckrone, NP, MSN, BSN. Leckrone is familiar face to many in Huntington, this family nurse practitioner is now seeing patients of all ages.

A former emergency and medical/surgical nurse, she worked at both Parkview Huntington Hospital (PHH) and Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth, Indiana, from 2014 to 2019. Following that, she spent a year and a half providing comprehensive care as a family nurse practitioner at the Bowen Health Clinic in Warsaw and 85 Hope medical clinic in Wabash. She returns to Huntington having a wide range of clinical and administrative experience under her belt.

“We’re so glad to welcome Katie back,” said Doug Selig, president of PHH. “She is a skilled, compassionate caregiver. She was a valuable member of the hospital team as a bedside nurse, and she will be a great care partner for family medicine patients, helping them to make good choices for their health.”

Leckrone earned her Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) from the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.

As a family nurse practitioner, she is qualified to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions, develop individual care plans for treatment, and prescribe appropriate medications.

“I have wanted to be a nurse practitioner since early in my teens,” said Leckrone. “I enjoy caring for others, and I love that family practice allows me to emphasize preventive health measures in all stages of life.”

Leckrone is thrilled to be back with Parkview in Huntington: “I have loved Parkview since my initial nursing orientation back in 2015,” she said. “Parkview emphasizes continuing education and growth. My previous co-workers and instructors were always willing to answer questions and share their knowledge, so I’m really excited to be back in this type of learning environment and providing care for local families.

“I want to encourage my patients to really think about what they want for their long-term health,” she continued. “I don’t want them to be limited in their lives because of a preventable disease, so I strive to understand what is most important to each person and create a care plan that works for their individual circumstances.”

In her spare time, Leckrone enjoys participating in all kinds of activities with her two young daughters, particularly baking. She is also a fan of reading, walks and kayaking.

Leckrone is welcoming new patients at the PPG – Family Medicine office at 2003 Stults Road, Suite 100, in the John B. Kay Medical Office Building on the Parkview Huntington Hospital campus. To schedule an appointment, call (260) 356-5424.
