How enthusiastic do people of all ages in Huntington County feel about celebrating America’s 250th birthday this summer? From our vantage point at the Chamber, the answer is mixed – and that’s exactly why this year matters so much.

In 2026, our nation will mark its semiquincentennial, honoring the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This historic milestone offers a rare opportunity for communities across the country to come together in celebration, reflection and pride. Yet, there is a growing sense that many may choose to sit this one out. We believe Huntington County can – and should – do better.

The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce is proud to celebrate America’s 250th birthday through our annual Heritage Days, and this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the largest and most memorable yet. Plans include an expanded parade featuring more entries, additional marching bands, and enhanced participation from the Mizpah Shriners – who have selected the 2026 Heritage Days Parade as their official Temple Parade. We’re also welcoming increased participation from our Disney-themed entries and strongly encouraging every business in Huntington and Huntington County to take part. New this year will be a vintage airplane display at the Huntington Municipal Airport that may possibly include rides in the aircraft.

Parade entries are just $25 and provide a meaningful way to show your business to the parade enthusiasts, support the local Chamber, demonstrate your patriotism, and celebrate our nation’s legacy together.

This year’s Hot Air Balloon Festival promises to be unforgettable as well. Alongside the beautiful balloons that have become a festival favorite, we plan to feature a large patriotic balloon proudly displaying the American flag as it flies across the community (weather permitting) and appears on display during the Saturday night festivities at Huntington North High School.

We encourage everyone to gather with friends to watch the parade, enjoy cookouts with family afterward, and simply show up to be part of this historic moment. Celebrations like these are more than events – they shape how future generations remember Huntington County and its role in honoring our nation’s history.

If America’s 250th birthday is embraced by only a few, it will stand as a missed opportunity of historic proportions. With community-wide participation, however, it can become one of the most meaningful and memorable celebrations Huntington County has ever hosted.

Download a parade entry form here, complete it, and return it to the Chamber. Join us in planning and celebrating one of the best parties around – and help make America’s 250th birthday a moment Huntington County will never forget.
