The neighborly values of many Huntington County citizens are deeply rooted in vibrant spiritual faith. During Huntington’s earliest days, Miami Indian Chiefs Richardville and LaFontaine contributed property to build the Catholic community’s first church. Methodists, Baptists, and Lutherans soon followed.

Today, more than 80 churches, representing most denominations, enrich the quality of life by operating day care centers, schools, and thrift stores, and by caring for the elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged.

Huntington is home to the world headquarters of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. In 1897, this evangelical Protestant denomination founded both Huntington University and College Park Church, left.

The congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1997. The society was founded by Father John Joseph Sigstein, who organized the sisters for missionary service in the impoverished American Southwest. Victory Noll, pictured at right, was built with the help of Archbishop John Francis Noll, founder and publisher of Our Sunday Visitor. From this central house, the sisters minister in 73 mission centers in the United States and Bolivia.
