Delightful shopping and dining opportunities can be found throughout the county. Special festivals help promote commerce in all the county’s towns. The annual Taste of Roanoke and Roanoke Patriotic Pops Concert offer two examples.
The Huntington Courthouse Square Historic District, in the heart of the county, is filled with locally-owned specialty shops, restaurants, apartments, and offices. Elegantly restored old buildings dating back to the 1800’s, planters filled with beautiful blooms, and period streetlamps add warmth and charm to the downtown shopping area.
On Huntington’s north side, Huntington Plaza offers a complex of 16 stores featuring a Gold Crown Hallmark, Big Lots, J.C. Penny's and Pebbles Department Store. Just north of the Plaza is a Super Wal-Mart Shopping Complex and a Super K-Mart. Two additional shopping centers, anchored by major national discount chains, are conveniently located just off US 24. Grocery stores, a pharmacy, several restaurants, and a variety of retail outlets are clustered around these shopping centers.
