Managing in Uncertain Tmes
Last year was tough on everyone including individuals, businesses, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and not-for-profit organizations. In the face of declining wages, revenues and funding, cost control was one of the tools that many used to survive. The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce was no exception.
Due to reduced membership dues collections in 2009, your Chamber Board of Directors worked with the Chamber staff to successfully identify cost reduction opportunities. These reductions were broad-based and included a furlough program for the Chamber staff as well as decreases in service costs, supplies, and meeting expenses. The annualized savings from these actions total over $11,000 and will continue into 2010.
Despite these expense cutbacks, we have not cut the programs and services that Chamber members are accustomed to receiving. The committee reports in this program detail the key programs and services that were provided in 2009. Your investment continues to make sense, especially in these difficult economic times. As always, please let us know if there are gaps between our current programs and your future needs. Best wishes for a successful 2010!
